PROUDLY INTRODUCING ‘HAMMER TIME’ - OUR NEW BLACKSMITHING CLUB

This is an amazing and unique opportunity for those who have enjoyed attending our courses and wish to return to utilise our facilities in order to develop the skills they have learned on a previous course with us, to play, experiment and simply to make cool stuff! Make a separate item on each session, embark on a larger project that you make in stages over multiple sessions or just tinker and have some fun hitting red-hot iron!

We are initially piloting this club, so the detail on how it will operate may change slightly as sessions go on, as we look to improve the club where possible.

We have 4 workstations in the dedicated work area, so there may be up to 4 of you working in the area at any one time.

*** *** PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A COURSE AND THERE WILL NOT BE AN INSTRUCTOR *** ***

  • Your workstation will be located in our ‘demo’ forging area, which sits adjacent to our main teaching area, where will have your own forge, anvil, leg-vice and dedicated hand tooling. You will be left to your own devices and not be under any instruction, however we will be on hand at all times to supervise, administer first aid if required, and to ensure you are working safely and correctly.

  • We will be able to offer advice/support/guidance at limited times, but will not be able to offer dedicated, continuous support (please book a bespoke 1-2-1 course instead if you requiring this) - you will ultimately be working on your own, utilising our equipped working area.

  • You will have 8 hours working time per day between the hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm and we will provide refreshments (tea, coffee, bottled water and biscuits).

  • You will have access to all hand tools as normal (hammers, tongs, hot-sets, punches, chisels etc), but also have exclusive access with our discretion, to select machinery, strictly under direct supervision and following an induction to each machine or, access to us carrying out a process for you - MIG welding for example.

  • Steel & materials - you are most welcome to source and bring your own materials, but you will have access to a selection of mild steel stock from the steel rack, that can be cut to length. Steel will be charged at £4.65+VAT per KG and will be calculated by weighing your item upon its completion. Coal for your forge is included and covered by us and you will be in charge of topping-up and managing the coal in your forge.

  • Finishing - there will be be access to finishing products for you to be able to give an interior finish (beeswax, graphite pastes etc). You will also be able to utilise our rustproofing (hot zinc metallisation) and/or painting service - this will be quoted for at an exclusively discounted rate for QSB Club members prior to going ahead and is usually a 2-6 week turnaround.

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact Tom Quinnell to discuss via tom@fireandiron.co.uk or on 01372 375148.
